Thom and Ashley’s Adventures

It was just about exactly 9 years ago that I came back to the US from a semester in Kenya.  It was my first trip to Africa, and has shaped my life in so many ways!  I’m heading back to Kenya and making a side trip to Zambia, and I’m excited to go back, in a weird way, to where it all began for me.  As always, I will do my best to take and post photos here.  Now I better get back to packing!

Hi everyone!  Apologies for not posting in so long.  Here’s a sampling of photos from a recent one-week jaunt to Puerto Rico.  Highlights included a day in Old San Juan, a driving trip through the mountains (culminating with a feast of pork, based on an Anthony Bourdain recommendation), a two-day trip to Vieques (an island off the east coast of PR, with beautiful beaches that we reached by scooter) and a short trip into El Yunque, the only tropical rain forest in the US.  And of course we found a lovely coffee shop.

The first photo is from my trip in early May 2010, and the second is from my recent trip in late September 2010.  This is a pretty good comparison of the height of rainy season versus the last month of dry season.

The bike is called a Zambike, and the stretcher is called a Zambulence.  Pretty zambrilliant, right?

The robin who nested on our electrical box out back finally has her babies!
